Lancers Take 10-0 Record Into GCL South Opener Versus Moeller
Senior guard Derek Eddings scored a game-high 18 points as La Salle erupted for 49 first-half points on its way to an 84-37 victory against East Central , Ind. in a non-conference basketball victory Tuesday night at La Salle High School.  The Lancers, off to their best start since winning 19 consecutive games to begin the 2003-04 season, take plenty of momentum into the Greater Catholic League South Division opener against Moeller on Friday night.
Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at La Salle High School.
La Salle (10-0), which had 10 players score in its latest victory, will attempt to hand Moeller its first GCL South loss since February 6, 20016 – a 48-43 Crusaders’ loss at Elder.  Since then, Moeller has reeled off 19 consecutive wins against league opponents – finishing with unbeaten 6-0 marks to win the last three GCL South championships outright.  Moeller (9-1), which will take an eight-game winning streak into the GCL South opener, has won or shared the league title for six consecutive seasons.
But La Salle has been nothing short of dominant so far.  The Lancers have won nine of the 10 game by double figures, the lone single-digit win a 55-46 victory against highly regarding Covington Catholic on the road in Park Hills back on December 13.  Against East Central, Eddings knocked down 6-of-7 field goals, including 2-of-3 from three-point range to go along with four rebounds and three steals.  He was joined in double figures by juniors Justin Lovette and Jeff Queen, Jr., who each finished with 14 points.  The Lancers connected on 32-of-58 field goals, good for 55.2 percent shooting, and nailed 12-of-24 three-pointers.
Friday is the first of six consecutive Friday nights comprising the GCL South schedule.  And it figures to be quite a competitive race this season – judging from the combined 33-6 record the four GCL South teams have compiled against non-conference opponents.  Elder (6-3), which got off to a slow start after advancing to the Division I state football final, has won five of its last six games, with the lone setback, 46-43, at Turpin.  The Panthers open up at St. Xavier (8-2), which has won eight in a row after tipping off the season with close losses at Princeton, 70-68, and at Lakota East, 49-43.  All GCL South varsity games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
