St. Xavier’s Cutforth Wins GCL 1-Meter Diving Championship

Aquabombers Prepare For Swimming Competition Wednesday at Keating
St. Xavier senior Ben Cutforth recorded a score of 250.75 to finish atop the leaders competing in the Greater Catholic League South Division 1-Meter Diving held Saturday afternoon at Sycamore High School.  Cutforth’s score placed him ahead of defending champion Gavin Osterday of Moeller, who was runner-up with a 223.00.  St. Xavier’s Will Behimer and Gavin Hang finished third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 204.60 and 200.90, with James Wolf of Moeller rounding at the top five with a score of 169.15.
The GCL & GGCL Division I Swimming & Diving Championships resume with the swimming competition Wednesday at Keating Natatorium on the campus of St. Xavier High School. Warm-ups are scheduled  to begin at 4 p.m., with the competition to start at 5:10.  The Aquabomers are looking for yet another league title; St. Xavier is annually considered one of the top boys’ prep swimming programs in the nation and, in fact, were on top of the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association dual meet ranking for boys’ team for the fifth consecutive year last July.  It was the  seventh No. 1 ranking overall for St. Xavier, which also is coming off its 11th state title overall and No. 40 in its storied history.
Ursuline Academy is the four-time defending GGCL champion.
