Panthers Face Defending GCL South Champ La Salle In First Round
Elder is vying to win its fourth league title in the last five years when the Greater Catholic League South Division Wrestling Championships are held today at St. Xavier High School.  To do so, though, the Panthers will have to first  get past defending champion La Salle in the opening match at 1 p.m.  Moeller will wrestle St. Xavier at the same time, with the winners set to meet in the finals of the Varsity Dual-Team Tournament format finals at approximately 2:30.
The day starts early with a combined Junior Varsity / Freshman Individual Tournament matches slated to begin at 9 a.m., following weigh-ins by weight class that are set to begin at 7.  Varsity weigh-ins by class will start at 11.
Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students, good for all the matches scheduled today.  Elder won league titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018 before La Salle captured the prestigious GCL South title last year and went on to post  a strong finish in the postseason – finishing as runner-up behind perennial state power Lakewood St. Edward in the Division I Individual State Wrestling Championships held this past March in Columbus.
