All Four Teams Turn in Solid Performances In Recent Sectional Events

It has been quite a memorable season for the Elder bowling team this season, and the Panthers aren’t finished yet.  Elder, which is undefeated and captured the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I Sectional Championship  held last week at Colerain Bowl, looks to continue its postseason run when it competes in the OHSAA Southwest District DI Champion on Thursday at Beaver-VU Bowl in Beavercreek.  Bowling begins at 7:45 a.m.

It was a strong showing by all four Greater Catholic League South Division teams at the sectionals. Elder finished first with a team score of 4308, followed by La Salle in third with a team score of 3920 at Colerain.  Lancers’ Nolan Blessing was the top individual, rolling a 691 series, with teammate Steve Hambrick in third after totaling 682.  Elder showed its depth, with the Panthers’ five starters all winding up in the top 12 finishers – Ethan Boyers, fourth, 675; Ryan Kaffenberger, seventh, 651; Jaxon Tuerck, eighth, 650; Cameron Brocker, 11th, 631; and Tylar Jansing, 12th, 630.  Moeller finished fourth in the sectional held at Crossgate Lanes, rolling a 3660, with St. Xavier coming in sixth with a team score of 3593.   The top seven teams from each sectional site advance to the district tournament

Elder is the first team in the GCL South to have five members from the same to earn  first-team All-GCL honors – led by Tuerck, one of seven talented seniors on the Panthers’ varsity roster who was named the GCL South Bowler of the Year after going out in style on Senior Night by rolling a 300, the first of his career, the second by a Panther this season, and the sixth in program history.   Senior Timm Ries also rolled a perfect game earlier this season during a Varsity B match.

Elder’s varsity heads into the district match with a 21-0 record, including a perfect 18-0 in the GCL South this season.  The Panthers’ bowling program, which also includes Junior Varsity and Varsity A and B teams, is a combined 56-0 this season.  The Panthers’ came in third in the JV Championships held earlier this month in Centerville.
