La Salle-Moeller Play To Draw In Other League Game Tuesday Night
Three different players tallied a pair of goals as St. Xavier opened the second half of its Greater Catholic League South Division schedule with a 9-2 victory against Elder in the lone soccer match involving league schools played Tuesday at Ballaban Field at St. Xavier Stadium.  St. Xavier is ranked No. 3 in the latest Division I boys’ poll released Monday by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (OSSCA).
In last night’s other GCL South match, La Salle hosted three-time defending league champion Moeller and emerged with a 4-4 draw.  The Lancers actually led the first meeting, 3-0, at intermission before Moeller rallied to score four second-half goals and capture a one-goal victory.  This time, though,   Senior Chase Willis and junior Chase Sisky each scored a goal and added an assist for La Salle, which has a two-game unbeaten streak in the league.
Moeller got three goals from junior Brock Kiper, who leads the GCL South in goals scored, with nine, and in total points scored, with 20.  Kiper also recorded a hat trick in the first match against La Salle, giving him six of his nine goals this season against the Lancers.
Seniors Isaiah Neal, Prince Okonny and Lawrence White each found the net twice for St. Xavier (9-1-1, 4-0-1 GCL South), coming off their lone loss of the year at Mason, 2-1, last Saturday.  The Bombers, who have now outscored their opposition, 35-8, in 11 matches, also got goals from seniors Will Bernhard, Hutungimana and Brent Lands – who now has five goals and a league-best six assists and is second in points scored, with 16.
Up next for St. Xavier is a home match against Cleveland St. Ignatius at 3 p.m. Sunday.  The Bombers will attempt to avenge a 7-1 setback to the Wildcats last August in a match that was played in Northeast Ohio as part of the annual Jesuit Cup.  St. Xavier also will host St. Ignatius in football at 5 p.m. one day earlier in the final game of the regular season.  St. Ignatius (10-0) sits atop the OSSCA DI poll, with perennial state power Medina ranked second.   The Wildcats are ranked No. 2 nationally by MaxPreps.
Elder (0-7-3, 0-3-1) travels to Kentucky to face Highlands at 1 p.m. Saturday.  The match will be played at Tower Park in Fort Thomas, home to Highlands’ soccer.
La Salle (3-5-3, 1-2-1) hosts Kings at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Lancer Stadium.  Moeller (2-2-3, 1-1-2) has two more matches this week, the next one at Loveland at  7 p.m. Thursday.  The Crusaders then  return to their Montgomery Road campus to host Lakota East at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gerry Faust Athletic Complex.
The two teams met in the Division I regional final last season, with East emerging with a 2-1 victory to deny the Crusaders a second straight trek to the DI Final Four.  East and Moeller played to a 2-2 draw during the 2019 regular season.
