GCL South Tips Off Six-Week League Schedule Friday Night
Sean Keller and Michael Keehan combined to score 34 points and knock down eight three-point goals as Elder built a double-digit halftime lead and went on to post a 64-55 victory in a non-conference basketball game at Northwest Tuesday night.  The game was the Panthers’ final tune-up before tipping off six consecutive Fridays of Greater Catholic League South Division play later this week.
Keller, a junior guard, finished with 18 points and five three-pointers for Elder (8-1) – which rebounded from its first loss of the season, a 52-50 home setback to Turpin on a last-second shot Saturday night.  Keehan, a senior guard, added 16 points and three three-pointers, while junior Drew Busam chipped in 12 points with three offensive rebounds.
The Panthers open GCL South play by hosting unbeaten St. Xavier (7-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.  The two teams split last year’s home-and-home series, with St. Xavier winning the first meeting at home, 58-45, and Elder coming back to win the second game, 50-48, later in the season at The Pit.
In Friday’s other GCL South game, Moeller (8-2) will attempt to extend its league winning streak to 26 games when it hosts La Salle (6-3) at 7:30.  The Crusaders have won the last four league championships outright, winning 25 straight GCL South games during that span.  The Crusaders’ last league loss was at Elder, 48-43, on February 5, 2016.
The GCL South teams have a combined 29-6 record against non-conference opponents this season.
